One of those bags would work or a mesh bag. They sell filter media or you can use anything with alot of area for bacteria to colonize, gravel, bits of sponge, or just the filter bag. You leave it in the filter when you change out the other so you have enough bio-filter.

Good luck, Mike

I'm not sure if this is a really noob question or what, but to replace the carbon in a filter cartridge, you just replace the old carbon and bag with a new, carbon filter bag right?

Take off the old bag and replace it with a new bag, filled with carbon...correct?

edit: oh and rinse the carbon

Uh, you've got more than one of those bags in there, right? If you throw that white bag out, won't that toss your biofilter as well?

Some of the bio-filter will go. Typically there is a space in the filter for some media for the bacteria to colonize.

If you havn't already done so get a mesh bag and some media and find a place for it in the filter. If you have a whisper there is some room between the bag with the carbon and the tank.

Next time get a Penguin.

Good luck, Mike
