They sell filter media or you can use anything with alot of area for bacteria to colonize, gravel, bits of sponge, or just the filter bag. You leave it in the filter when you change out the other so you have enough bio-filter. Good luck, Mike |

Typically there is a space in the filter for some media for the bacteria to colonize. If you havn't already done so get a mesh bag and some media and find a place for it in the filter. If you have a whisper there is some room between the bag with the carbon and the tank. Next time get a Penguin. Good luck, Mike |
