![]() | Filtration - Penn Plax Cascade |
azmentl![]() Hobbyist Posts: 61 Kudos: 55 Votes: 11 Registered: 14-Dec-2004 ![]() ![]() | Does anyone use a Penn Plax Cascade? I have one that uses the standard carbon cartridge but also has a quasi-foam insert for bio filtration. Everywhere I look for new replacement cartridges, all I find are the carbon ones. Am I supposed to simply wash out the foam one? Does that kill all the bacteria requiring another cycle? I really don't know what to do. Any advice would be awesome. oh - it's a cascade 300 (for up to 100g tanks and mine is a 46g bowfront) |

But generally one rinses the foam insert in a cup/jug of tank water. Tap water has chlorine and will kill the bacteria (as you suspected). But if you rinse it in a container of tank water then put it back into the filter it will retain the good guys and ditch nasties that build up as solids and prevent the filter working as effectively. Maybe someone else can jump in with more info... ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

Well I rinsed it, after I'd had a couple beers on saturday night, and I recall seeing lots of stuff come off. I'll have to remember to do it pre-party next time. Everything looks okay for now though ![]() |
