I have a used fluval 403 I am going to be using on my 90g tank. 2 problems, 1) it leaks, 2) it doesnt suck the water up.
Concerning the leaking problem, I have ordered some parts for it from Big Als, including a canister seal, and some new canister locking clips, as well as a impeller shaft cover. I am hoping replacing these broken parts will stop the leak. It is Leaking where the top motor housing clips onto the canister bottom. pretty bad too.
The second problem however has me stumped. Now I have a fluval 204, and it has a pump on it to draw in water. How do you accomplish this on the 403? Do you h ave to suck on the tube???
Please any advice on solving these problems would be much appreciated.

replacing parts should work for the leaking. about the not sucking water, is the canister under or above the tank?

the 303 and 403 came with a little rubber squeeze ball that had a nozzle on it that you pushed in to the out take of the filter and squuezed several times to start the syphon action. In truth it was next to useless and sucking on the outtake tube worked for me every time.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!

I have a 203 and had to suck on the outflow tube to get the water in.

As for the leaking, in my case, the circular rubberband fell off into the canister and it started to leak where you lock the two components together. So I just reopened it and position the rubberband where its was supposed to be and it was a snug fit ]
