i am planning on buying either a Mini-Bow 2.5 tank or an Eclipse System 3 tank. But i need a heater for them. I want a visi-therm heater since i have one and love it and hear lots of good things about it. Is the Visi-therm Stealth better than the regualr one or is it the same thing but just in black?

Now the most important question is would 50watt be over kill? That is the smallest one i find around here, even online. I was planning to get 25watts one. So is 50 ok? or is it an absolute no-no? If i HAVE to get the 25watt one then i guess i'll have to keep looking till i find it somewhere to buy but i perfer to get it from a store than online just in case i have to return it of any reason.

A 50 W heater would be fine, but if you want something smaller, you can get a heat pad from Hydor.

Here is a link to the small Hydory Heating Pad I just got for one of my small tanks...they are supposed to be good, and I know petco also carries them Hint of advice I had one of the small heater tubes from walmart, it melted itself

I have a problem with heating pads from way back, they last a long time, but when they do start to go they tend to overheat rather than short out, and this can be a glass breaking, fish cooking nightmare. I found this with regular heat mats and the infra -red versions, having used both with both fish and reptiles. Generally they were lousy with the reptiles too.

Generally if a tube heater goes (bearing in mind it should be placed either in or near the flow anyway) the problems tend to be less severe. Some of them have 3-5 year guarantees now.
