High evaporation rate in Nanocube | |
renoharps Hobbyist Posts: 97 Kudos: 75 Votes: 5 Registered: 21-Feb-2005 | Has anyone noticed that the Nanocubes have a high evaporation rate? I have started a fishless cycle in a 12g model (not the deluxe one) and I have noticed that I am losing 1-2 quarts of water per day. I have the temp at 86 degress F to help speed things up so that is undoubtedly contributing but I think this may be excessive. I verified that I don't have any leaks. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the much touted fans that cool the light are positioned over the water and must be functioning as a humdifier by providing an exhaust of air across the water and out of the tank. It's winter here and my house is naturally very dry so that may be contributing to the high evaporation rate also. Is this a normal rate for a 12g tank? |

Once you get your temperature to an acceptable level, and your house gets a little more moisture in it, you should see a drop. I don't find that at all high for the situation. |

I had high evaporation rates in one of the office tanks till I bought a better fitting lid. Unless you've got live plants in there already I'd go with lights (and fans) off till you're done with the cycle. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] And though it’s red blood bleeding from her now. It's more like cold blue ice in her heart. She feels like kicking out all the windows. And setting fire to this life." |
