How do you know if submersible heater is on? | |
viciouschiapet Fish Addict Posts: 651 Kudos: 77 Votes: 15 Registered: 25-Jan-2003 | The tank that I got used came with a submersible heater. It looked like that was the kind they were using when I came to move everything, but i've never had that kind before so when i tried it at home i ended up going with the hanging kind they also gave me. I dind't see where to adjust the temp on it. Sorry for the newbie question, but i'm not sure if i don't get it or if it just is broken. As some of you may know by now, the air pump broke immediately and the tank's light isn't working, so i wouldn't be surprised if the heater is just dead. I bought a lemon! ={ The pottery that growls! |

All my heaters, including my submersibles have them. Check to make sure the heater is fully submersible first - many submersible heaters arent fully submersible. Look for a "Water line" at the top of it or a markt hat says "maximum water depth". If you see one, it isnt submersible. Sometimes heaters are preset, meaning you cant adjust them. I myself wouldnt use one. Sometimes they have a cap that fits on over the top, below which is a dial to set temp. Read the packaging and the booklet that came with the heater. Good luck. If I had as much stuff wrong with the tank I bought, Id be returning the whole works for an exchange or money back. All you can do to see if they are on is touch the heater or check the thermometer to see if the temp is right. Also some heaters like the ebo jagers have a do not submerse line just because they don't meet regulations in other countries. They are equivalent to all the best fully submersible heaters here so you can submerse them below that line. It's only the hang on heaters that do not say submersible that you cannot put fully underwater. These heaters short out easily and aren't recommended for most setups. Does your submersible heater not have a dial on the top? If not I'd just go buy a new one. Ebo jager and visitherm are 2 very popular heaters that have proven to last a long time. I also still have a via aqua that's been running for 5years without issue but it's a titanium heater. They can be rather expensive and I don't see any improvement over my visitherm stealth heaters. The stealth heaters are practically indestructible and should last a lifetime. I haven't found a way to break one and I've done alot of rough stuff to them. |

Unfortunately there is no manual - i bought it used. The problem when i first tried it was just that it was too warm, so the heater didn't click on. I'm trying it now that it's night time, and i see the orange light. It looks much better than the big hanging one! The pottery that growls! |
