How to Work UGF | |
Hooktor Fish Addict Posts: 646 Kudos: 651 Votes: 67 Registered: 22-Mar-2004 | I acquired a new tank and i am not sure how to work the UGF that came with the freebie. I know it needs a major cleaning, but other than that, how does it work? Hooktor attached this image: |

The tall pipe you will want to insert into another hole and put airline with a bubbler on the end in through the top of the pipe, down to the bottom. I believe the powerhead will increase circulation if it is on the top of a tube, there is usually a strainer you attach to the bottom that will fit into the pipe. A connector can be found in some chain stores that increases efficiency. UGF's work by circulating oxygenated water through the plate(up through the pipes, down through the plate) and the gravel is essentially a giant biofilter. Make sure you thoroughly gravel vac EVERY week or junk will build up and clog the plate, reducing the once great biofilter into a cesspool. Don't let that discourage you though, I kept one running for 2 years with no problems. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |
