this is the tank with the worst hood ever so lighting is rather difficult but I'm hoping not impossible.

The tank is a little over 30cms in length and 13cms in width with a rounded front.

The hood prevents me from using a simple length wise light and it's a no go for me to get a replacement hood, even if it's a DIY one like a meshed hood.

I was hoping there was some sort of underwater lighting I could go for but I'm not too sure.

Help please ^^;

Edit: I don't need any lighting for plants, just enough so I can see my little betta clearly etc. =)

There are underwater spotlights and underwater fairy lights BUT they will all heat the water to some degree. The fairy lights have been used in jars/bowls as a heating device, they are that effective.

They are designed for ponds and large tanks, so heat is going to be a bit of a sticking point. From memory though, they are about $12 so it might be worth a try, and just monitor it to see how it goes.

Personally, I'd be going with a halogen desk light coming in at an angle from the side. Still about $12 but the heat has somewhere to go other than the water.

Maybe another option might be those Marina mini-lights, perhaps they can be affixed to the outside of the tank somehow?

I forgot to mention, having a desk lamp there isn't a go either since I need the desk space.

What's a marina mini light?

they are designed to sit on the lids of the geotanks, but I think they can go underwater too. Marina Micro LED I think they are called. I have never used them, but they look interesting for tricky lighting situations.

I bought a marina LED, it is a nice soft light and I quite like it, Im thinking of buying one more just so that both sides of the tank can have equal lighting during daylight hours =)

if you can take the hood off you could buy a clip on light from ebay. they clip on to the side of the tank but if you still want the hood on you would have to have an underwater light or a light on the outside of the tank or something.

I have a couple of those marina LED lights. You can suction cup them to the outside or the inside of the aquarium. Be careful when you're buying them, the light and the part you plug in are sometimes sold separately. I bought one of the red ones and it works great for watching the fish at night.
