On our 55, we have a new Hydor Theo 200 (Christmas 07) has been working great, love being able to set the temperature.
Today, although it is set at 79F, I glanced at the thermometer while feeding, and noticed it was at 82! So I checked the other thermometer, also 82F. The light was still on indicating the heater was still working, although it should have shut off at 79F.
What do you think, do we have a defective heater? Does anyone have experience with these heaters?

Looks like the thermostat on your heater is off by 3 degrees, you could try turning it down to 76 and see if it holds the water temp at 79. The thermostats can be off by a couple of degrees or more sometimes.

I bought a theo heater for my 45 a couple of months ago and the thermostat was off by 7 degrees. I felt that was too far off so I sent it back and replaced it with a visitherm stealth heater. The thermostat on the stealth is off by a degree or so which is close enough for me. The only thing I don't like about the stealth is it does not have an indicator light to let you know it's working, other than that one minor thing it's a great heater and gets good reviews here. I also have 3 other visitherm heaters that are 5 years old and still working great.

Thanks! I kinda figured that was the problem, so I dialed it down to 77 and it's holding nicely at 80.... quirks you gotta learn!
It's a submersable, and I didn't fully submerse it when I set it up, I wondered if that had something to do with it, so I made sure it was completely underwater, and that was whn it started working for me again, albeit off by 3 degrees.
