I have broken the handle/clamp that holds things together & have a replacement but can't get the new clamp in.

I've already taken out the four screws out of the top but the two sections don't come apart easily and I'm not about to yank them apart.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Remove only the two screws in the gray body...

Then place a wide blade screwdriver between the blue lever and the gray body and turn the blade to allow the one side of the lever to escape the gray body and pull out the lever.

Thank you Gary for your response, but...

because the clamp snapped I was able to get it out, I'm having trouble getting the new clamp in.

Thank you for the flathead suggestion, I've now tried sliding the lever in with a butter knife, but I'm still not having any luck.

BTW - this is a fluval 304.

The left end of the blue clamp is placed in the left hole and pushed to the left while snapping the right end into the right hole.

It's a tight fit.

Be careul when closing the clamps...

First push the top down on one side and close the clamp then push the other side down and close the clamp.

That process will take the pressure off the clamps and keep them from cracking.

Inspect the clamps for hairline cracks before closing. If you miss the crack and secure the top and fill the unit the water will start flowing out of the rubber top seal, sometimes unnoticed.

Thanks for heads-up.

Fortunately you don't have to open them up very often, do you? I was told every couple of months should be okay. I will definitely be more careful now.

Depends on the bio load of the tank...

Large fish produce more waste thus a more frequent filter cleaning is required.

Once per month under normal bio loads shold be plenty.
