I broke my heater :( | |
poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | I broke my 50w Tronic heater last night. I THOUGHT I had it on a timer with some other things (the timer runs for a few hours a day to keep my bucket of top-off/WC water warm and airerated), but I had it plugged straight into an outlet. I took the heater out of the bucket when I moved the bucket across the room to top off my 29g, and since it was plugged in, it turned on after a minute or so, and it got really hot. I smelled something burning, saw the heater's light on, overreacted, and tossed the heater into the bucket of water (holding it by the cord, obviously). Of course the heater shattered, and I'll need to get a new one sometime My question is this: Is there anything toxic inside the heater? The little cylander that the heating coils are wrapped around seems to be porus, and I don't know if that it would leech anything into the water. I don't know if the thermostat contains anything poisonious (normal thermostats use mercury/tungsten alloys in vaccum tubes that could easily break and poison the water and/or ruin my bucket). Anybody have any ideas? Thanks |
