Insuficient heater for 20 gal. high? | |
Fish On The Brains Hobbyist Posts: 141 Kudos: 126 Votes: 65 Registered: 04-Jan-2005 | Currently I'm using a 100W Marineland Dual-Temp heater. It's rated for a 5-20 gal. aquarium. Currently room temp is 19C (66.2F), heater thermostat is set to 27.7C (82F) water temp is 25.1C (77.1F)... hmmmmmm??!! Also, outside temp is -2C (28.4F). My aquarium is about 3.5' from our back sliding door, but it's not that cold there. Seeing as how the aquarium temp is lower than the 'target' temp (of 27.7C/82F) shouldn't the heaters thermostat see it has to be on continously to reach it's 'target' temp? I'm thinking of replacing the 100W Marineland with a Ebo-Jager 100W as it has a higher gal. range, and better temp control. Good choice?! If placed vertically the water around the heater will warm the thermometer and cause it to turn off, if placed horizontally in a high flow area the heat will dissapate more and spread more evenly thruout the tank before turning the heater off. Also you're asking that heater to do a very difficult job, you may want to turn the temp down a few degrees to be closer to the room temp say 76 or 78 if your fish can accept those temps (check the profile), also don't turn the temp down more than 2 degrees a day. ^_^ Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] |

A paragraph in the instruction brochuer reads "NOTE: If water temperature is below the heater's preset temperature setting, indicator light will remain on while the water is being heated to selected temperature." Would it be fine placed if it's placed in a horizontal position? Adjusting the temperature has two settings, 25C/76F and 28C/82F, it would take some time for the temp to come down, but safe enough for the fish?! Thanks! Since the tank temp is 77 now, if the fish are able to handle that temp then I'd suggest trying the heater @that temp. ^_^ Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] |
