hello,

I would love to have my tanks lit like this,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46314&item=4381007151&rd=1

do you think these lights are ok safe for fish etc, genuine??? the feed back is very good, only one neg.

i have freshwater tanks only, but frequently work late and would love to have normal lights on and then late at night have the Moon light lights on - say normal lights - 12 till 8? moon lights 8 - 12,

how would affect the plants do you think?

thanks for you help
GFG

All I've heard is that Moonlights are good for fish, and plants. I have moonlights for my tanks, and it does look quite nice. I heard that fish can't see the color blue, and that is why they can still go to sleep with the moonlights on.

As regards the times.. it really doesn't matter exactly when. I have a light timer that turns them on just a little before the main lights go off. I saw that those lights are dimmable; i use a program call Ephemeris, [link=http://home.comcast.net/~jonsachs/#Ephemeris 1.0]http://home.comcast.net/~jonsachs/#Ephemeris 1.0[/link] that shows the current moon cycle (light intensity) for my location in Michigan. I adjust the dimmer to something relative to the actual moon intensity of the current day. Thus, I give my fish a moon cycle..

It's not a lot of work, even though it sounds like it. Once you get set up... all it is, is just a little turn of the dial everyday.

P.S. In the program, it does list London, England as a location. And, you're really, really smart, you can configure your exact location...

everybodys getting into these now

i have seen the light bars on ebay, but i have the ones that petsmart sells. i leave mine on all night long. and i do say that they do help with plant life. i put them in my 5g tank and i noticed the plants went nuts shortly after

http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441779062&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023693&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302030121&bmUID=1116855126069

now those you link to on ebay i'm not sure of, i would think they stay out of the water. the ones i have are fully submersible. i have them on the bottom of one tank and the top of another. they dont glow as bright as the ebay ones, but these work just as good

Moonlighting cheap

check this site out it gives you all the info you need to make a LED moonlight real cheap yourself. it also tells you the exact "blue" temp that the real moon has so you can buy the same exact thing in lighting. in other words....no painted light bulbs

Cold cathode (the ebay auction) isn't drimmable. Moonlights won't help or hurt your plants. Switching timers rule.

i cant see the pictures since they wont load, but if its just a cold cathode. then get these:

for smaller tanks: http://www.xoxide.com/colcatblu.html
for larger tanks: http://www.xoxide.com/bluecathode.html

then get this:
http://www.xoxide.com/miposunocone.html

that setup would still end up cheaper or around the price of that EBay thing, but im not sure if the EBay thing is just a blue cold cathode or not. btw, if u do order offa that site, put "azndvl" in the rewards program nickname area when ure ordering
