Making somthing out of Failiure........... | |
mcfat88 Enthusiast Posts: 225 Kudos: 189 Votes: 7 Registered: 13-Mar-2004 | Hi, I currently have made , as some may know, a paladaruium and have decided to branch out and attempt to make somthing else out of what I have involving water, land, or both ( Im open to anything.). I just cant seem to get the seals sealed enough to hold the amount of water needed. Below is a link to some photos of the setup taken awhile back, but nothing has changed from the past month. Its just frustrating that a supposed to have been a 2 week at max project has turned into a 2 month problem. I really want to finish this tank some how or another and get somthing in it. Thanks for any suggestions. Heres the link : http://www.geocities.com/mcfat_we_be/mcfat88.html Last edited by mcfat88 at 04-May-2005 21:07 Last edited by Fallout at 05-May-2005 08:56 |

I know you were really frustrated by it. Hate to not see you using this tank though so maybe you just need to strip out all of the sealant and walls and just go back to a normal aquarium setup. |

Pile rocks or driftwood up, put in a nice waterfall and some terrestrial plants, and ta-da: paludarium. It generally won't be right for reptiles but could be a gorgeous home for fish, maybe something odd and fun like mudskippers. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

Is the only problem so far is that it leaks a bit? EDIT: OK, Are you saying the TANK leaks or the little internal DAMS leak? Cause the dams are an easy fix Your problem was that you overcomplicated what was essentially a very simple concept (guilty myelf at many times) You will need a trip to the homewares store and a trip to the watering system section of the hardware store. Buy the correct sized tupperware to form your dams. Buy the screw-in fittings you will need to run the piping through the containers and still have them be watertight Easy peasy Last edited by Callatya at 05-May-2005 21:39 |

My thought is to replace or at least reinforce the plexiglass/silicone area with an appropriately-sized injection moulded piece, eliminating joins and weak spots. The most practical choice would be tupperware-like containers, but anything without joins will do You gotta take some of the pressure off your seams, because they just aren't strong enough to hold that much water. My bet is that the plexiglass bowed slightly with the water pressure and popped the seams. |
