They're not that expensive, and will enable you to fit as much wattage as is possibly over the tank. Pretty sure that the one I bought for the 30 gallon (3') was around $30 from my LFS. Compartment in the back? Any chance it looks like it could have been part of an integrated filtration system? ^_^[hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal. From the 50's hmmm...well you may not be able to use an AGA hood then. Just realized I did a classic babel and mixed up cover and hood :%). If the light fixture only holds one bulb then yes you'll have to change the fixture itself. Unlike screw in incandescents you cant just swap one wattage for the other. You can do a DIY lighting fixture by wandering around and seeing what's available in your local home improvements store (dual 20w strips are around $20), or order a premade one from any of the online fish sites or your LFS. If you've got the same problem I did with black acrylic tank cover limiting the ammount of light that can be placed over the tank look for clear covers @your lfs or check with a local glass shop about having one made for you. ^_^[hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal. It was designed as an area to keep smaller items such as containers of food, nets, etc.. Agree with Babelfish that it would probably be cheaper and much easier to just get a new top for the tank instead of trying to convert the older one. |

I've found that any marked daylight generally give a clean light, warm white will often be too yellow. ^_^[hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal.
