I was wondering what everyone else does for stands with multiple tanks. Right now my tanks are on metal stands- some have 2 tanks.

I would like to make something- easy - that can hold all my tanks in one place- with possibly more.

Any ideas appreciated

I bought a used 55g stand(48" long) for about $20 and put an oak top on it. Then used it to hold my 20L and 5g which together come to 47". Perfect fit.

I was thinking of using cinder blocks and 2x4s or 4x4s- maybe with MDF or thin plywood on top. I am trying to think of a configuration where those tanks will fit that takes up as small a footprint as possible and allows easy tank maintenance. Tried Google- could not quite find what I am looking for.

In my small fish room I built a 8'x 2' table. I used 4x4's (6) for the legs, 2x6's for the top and bottom frame and cross braces, and 1/2" plywood for the top and bottom shelves. I did this for about $25US. Make sure you have long enough legs for the desired tanks to fit below. This table can hold a 75 & 55 on top, and a 40 breeder and 3-10g's(sideways) on the bottom. With a 6 outlet air pump you can run most tanks with sponge or box filters to help electricity prices. Let my know if you want "instructions" on how to build(its very easy).

OK. Assuming floor is flat and close to level. Buy 1-16' 2x6's and a 12' 2x6; 1-16' 2x4's and a 12' 2x4 ; 1 sheet of 1/2" plywood(8'x4').4x4 posts will very on length untill you decide what tanks you are running down below. You will cut 6 , 4x4 posts to desired length.Give yourself some room. If you have 16" tall tank's below you will want to cut the 4x4"s about 38" long. You loose 10" from 2x6 frame above and 2x4 fram below, leaving you with 12" of room for maintenance. Now cut the 16' 2x6 and 2x4 in half(8'). Cut(6) pieces of each 2x6 and 2x4 at 21" out of the 12' bourds. Nail or screw the 4 pieces of each together(the 2-21" in between the 8') to create a square box that measures 8'x2'(outside measurements). Now you will have 2 frames(1-2x4 and 1-2x6).Now take the 4x4's and nail/screw to inside corners of the 2x4 frame at the bottom of the legs(all touching ground). Now you will need a hand for this. Nail/screw 2x6 frame to top of 4x4 posts. top of 2x6 frame even with top of 4x4 posts. It should start looking like a table now. You have 4 remaining 2x4 and 2x6 pieces at 21" and 2 4x4 posts(same lenght as other 4 you used. Mark 4' on both 2x6 and 2x4 frames(center of table). Nail/screw to both frames at center of 4x4 to your 4' marks. Now take 2-21" pieces of 2x6 and put at each side of center leg and nail to frame and legs. Other 2-2x6 eeds be nailed at 2' from each edge. This will give you 4 "cross" braces on top frame. Do same for bottom with remaining 2x4's. Cut plywood in half longwise(8'x2') and nail on top on outside frame and cross braces. Measure and cut remainin plwood for bottom(legs in way so smaller tank space on bottom. Your good to go for 25-30$. You could prolly hold a 8' tank on top if you like . Soory so long I hope you get the jist.

Here are a couple of pics of the stand I built. I eventually had nine 10 gal tanks and a 20 gal. You can build it to hold just about any size tank. It's got 3 levels. I ended up using the bottom level for storage.
