Hi, im setting up a 100g tank that i just got, i have a few questions;

with the filtration im thinkingg about using a HOB (aquaclear 800) and a canister, which cannister do you think would work?

Ive looked at the Hydor prime 30 (900l/h) but im not sure if that would be enough.

The Aquaclear is on sale at a online shop for $99 Aus, which seems to be a good deal i think.

Also i need lights, so far the best i can find is a twin compact set that gives me 160w, has anyone seen an online shop in australia that has better watts, without going Halides?

jakieblak,

I have never heard of the AquaClear 800, the largest one I can find on Hagen's website is the 110 (400 some gallons per hour flow rate) followed by the 70 (300gph). Can you post a link where I could view this item?

As for the canister question, here is a Good Link with lots of information about them.

Hope this helps,

Ingo

PS: 100G - nice size, what is it's footprint?

Ok if you type that in it should work, the filter is the Aquaclear 500, same as 110 in USA.

the tank is 4ft long x 2ft high x slightly over 1.5ft wide. 8mm glass (3/8)

or in metric 1220mm long X 600mm high X 500mm wide.

jakieblak,

Ok, I did not even have to look at the page, as I know the AC 500.

Now, this is not a bad filter. But I would say it all depends on the Canister that you will pick. If you choose a large one, like an Eheim 2028, then the HOB becomes more of a back-up system in case that filter fails. Did you check the link I provided in my first post?

I am in the process of setting up a 125G and I envision the Eheim 2028. I might (and I am not sure about that yet) add the AquaClear 70 (formerly 300) as a backup to it. Someone raised a good point regarding the HOB (I think it was Bob W.); he mentioned that I have to be careful to measure that the HOB is wide enough to fit over the top part of the frame. I haven’t measured this part yet.

Hope this helps,

Ingo
