Powerhead Questions | |
jenbabe256 Big Fish Posts: 316 Kudos: 312 Votes: 10 Registered: 21-Jul-2004 | I was thinking about getting a powerhead for some added current for my plecos in my 55 gallon tank. I had heard that it is also a good way to keep "junk" from congregating at the bottom of the tank (sand substrate). What is a good one to buy? How should I go about positioning it? Does it need an air pump to run? Basically any and all info would be appreciated. TIA Jen |

They work with an impeller inside that sucks water from underneath them...and shoots it out like a gun. The tops will have a little hole where you can attach an airline tube. The other side of the airline tube is left out of the water, and instant bubbles in the flow! Power heads are great for maximizing water air exchange and don't require a pump. Their position should be an inch or two from the waters surface. They can sit on a down tube or hang from a mount that they come with that hangs from the top of the tank. Aquaclear 402 is a popular choice. Hope this helps. Last edited by livebait at 09-Feb-2005 17:16 |
