Return Tube | |
lowlight Enthusiast Posts: 166 Kudos: 94 Registered: 03-Apr-2005 | The return tube on my fluval filter broke at the elbow where the spray bar attaches. Any ideas on how to fix. I am going to order another tube. I am running a power head with a sponge now, definatley just temporary. |

Is the end of the spray bar damaged? or is the actual elbow split in half? In either case you should be able to temporarily rig it until your replacement part arrives. It is amazing what you can do with some extra tubing or a piece cut off yours and some hose clamps purchased at a local hardware store. I hope this helps but I am kinda confused as to where the break in the line is. I hope the sponge filter is up to the job. What size is your tank? and how is it stocked? "Talk is cheap. Action can be almost as affordable" |

Fortunetly I am lightly stocked at the time. I am going to check one of the LFS to see if he has a replacement part, if not I will have to order it on line. I am going to use lock tight superglue for a temperary fix. I am using a XP3 in a 55gal. tank. |

Try an aquarium safe epoxy like Holdfast, normally meant to hold rocks together underwater, or even silicone would be better than superglue. While adjusting the intake tube to my cannister I pulled too hard on it and split it right where it curves over the tank. A bit of epoxy and it works fine. Would still be better if you can get a replacement but the epoxy holds for at least a few months with no leaks. |

lowlight Enthusiast Posts: 166 Kudos: 94 Registered: 03-Apr-2005 | I do believe I have fixed the problem. I cut a piece of an extention tube that I got from my LFS (for free, hows that for customer satisfaction?) and cut my out flow tube just before it curves down into the tank. I used a piece of clear tubing 5/8 I.D. and attached the 2 pieces together. I did use zip ties just as an added precaution. The tubing was a tight fit so I don't think there will be any problem. Thanks for the reply. |
