I wanted to use a 10g as a grow-out tank for two types of shellie fry, so I bought a tank divider thinking that was the obvious solution.

The problem is that there's no water movement on the non-filter side. I'm running a Whisper 20 with max output.

Are these best used in tanks with 2 filters?

I've never used any dividers in the past, so I'm just assuming that they are made of plastic or acrylic and have perforations in them, correct?

You should get a transfer of water circulating as long as they are perforated, or if possible position the output centered over the divider which would allow for more water movement on each side.

You ought to look for a divider with a very fine mesh which will provied circulation+ it will keep the fry on each others side but make shure you get a fine one!

I have used tank dividers with no problems. It should be fine like you have it. If you don't think you are getting enough circulation, you can get a peice of fine mesh plastic canvas, cut it to size and replace the one that came with the divider with the plastic canvas, (much stiffer and more durable, too).

I have a plastic needlepoint canvas as a divider for my Betta tank. Even with that divider the water circulation is reduced greatly.

I did come up with a setup that allowed even circulation on the divided tank. I used a large airstone and pinched it in between the bottom glass and the bottom edge of the divider.
