okay, you say it's green dirty, that sounds like an algae bloom to me. have you tested the water?? what are your test results? I had way too much nitrate in my 10g with green water and it took several water changes to finally clear that up. I also added a bunch of hornwort from another tank, it helps quite a bit. But, I've found that if I don't stay on top of my water changes and test the water on a regular basis then it eventually comes back. If it is an algae problem most people recommend leaving your tank in darkness for a few days to help, too (I couldn't because for some reason it really stressed out my female betta). HTH.

Like bscal said, it may be an algae bloom. There are treatments that you can buy at your LFS that claim to get rid of green water by killing the microscopic organisms causing it. I've never tried these and have no idea about the brands that make them, though I think one is called Wardley's Aqua Clear or something.

Green is algae... There are excess nutrients floating around in the water and they are being sucked up by algae. You can increase water changes, or add live plants to remove some of these nutrients.

Also, cutting out all outside light (bright rooms, indirect or direct light by sun from a window) will help cut down on algae blooms. Keep your light on the tank for about 10 hours.

For now, you can keep the tank totally light free for a few days to kill most of it off. Do another water change to remove some nutrients.

Are you servicing your filters along with the water changes,
or disturbing them?
