Hello I have recently noticed a problam that is occuring with my 56 gallon tank it has a plastic/glass top its a rectangle with a peice of plastic going down the middle to hold up the glass peices.

im sure this setup is used on lots, thing is my light has started to melt the inside plastic peice which is causing my glass top to to start sinking ...this is causeing a problem because I can't fill out my tank to where it used to be now i have a good inch at the top that you can see its short of water and my air bubblers bubbles hit the glass now instead of hitting the water top like it should.
Also the type of light on that tank sucks theres not flouresent lights..

My thing is could i reinforce this with something? if so what?
Also is there anything that would stop this in the future (like diff lights)

This is a pain in the butt i hate having my tanks short of water from the rim it looks crappy IMO.

Thanks any help would be great
Angel Eel =p

I sure did see it but..
its a 56 gallon custom I'm not sure if they would have a frame of that size and for the peices of the top I already have I don't want to go out and get another unless I have to =p

Maybe I should have just added this to the other thread..

The light of my tank are slowly melting the middle peice would it be possible to slowly warm that peice back up and move it back slowly...after that change lights???

Possibly, but it would never again be near its original strength or integrity....best to replace it or retire the tank.

It is reconmmended to drain the tank before any alternation of braces are done to the tank.

A little bit of bowing is normal, but the lights melting the plastic isn't.... Something is seriously wrong!

Get a flourescent strip and make a new brace

How to make this brace was the question...I'm lost

I went to the petstores around here today they have no tank trims at all unless you order them and it would cost an arm and a leg I will be changing the lights but for the time being .....
should I cut out the peice of plastic completely and put in a metal brace?

metal would for me be the best possible way....I'm quite good with metal.
Would this be a bad idea??

I know it might get hotter then the plastic but it will not warp.
