Incidentally, I've had temp problems in mine and no longer use it. The filter sits partially in the water and it generates heat. When the lid is closed, and with the light on, it was nothing to go up to 82F. I use to prop the lid just to keep it around 78F. Even with the light off it was still around 80 with the lid closed. I think the bigger models don't have as much of a problem, but the smaller ones seem to get hot. I know I'm not the only with this experience as I had made posts about it in the past. You can then easily replace it with a screw in florescent bulb for a high light planted tank. ^_^ Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] |

I even used a grow light and wow . I must say that since I have changed my 20 long from a Power Glo which was suppose to include plants, to a Flora Glo (narrower spectrum), my nuiscance algae has gone way down. |

I suppose I should have clarified that to be...If you have no plans whatsoever to use plants @any time in the tank ever....then get the floro fixture. Is it just me or are people not understanding me today . ^_^ Current Contest Rules Last edited by Babelfish at 31-Jan-2005 10:58 |

Cory_Di *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 7953 Kudos: 2917 Votes: 25 Registered: 19-Dec-2002 | OOoooo - My 5 gallon was a planted tank - with lots of hornwort, valisneria, java moss and something else -can't remember. I had to kill the incandescent and broke down and bought a flouro-fixture for the 5 gallon. I got a flora-glo and that finally did the trick. The algae backed off. Maybe if the tank had co2 it may not have done that as it was pretty high wattage. I think it was a 40w and on a 5 gal tank, that's pretty big. But, its hard to find really low watt incandescent. |

My friend was considereing the eclipse 3 if it had the flourescent lighting or a 5gallon mini bow and switching out the light for a florescent light bulb... which tank do you think is better for the money? btw, she wants to have 3 to 5 male guppies and some low light plants... |
