aquaclear carbon bag trickle | |
incubus70 Fingerling Posts: 36 Kudos: 31 Votes: 3 Registered: 10-Mar-2005 | I bought an Aquaclear activated carbon bag for my HOB aqauclear 70. They advertise on the box that the bag slows the waterflow through the bag, maximizing the chem. filtration. The problem is, the bag blocks the flow of water so much, that I can't have any setting other than low on the flowrate without the filter overflowing. Even at the lowest setting, water is coming out of the crack where the intake tube and the filter meet, on the left side. Should I make a new bag and put the carbon in? Thanks for your thoughts. |

I usually get that on about day 2 or if i use filter wool. if your aim is harbon, make/buy a new baggie. If your aim is to slow down the water flow, try putting the carbon below the sponge. It sounds silly, but sometimes it makes just enough difference |

I dont' run carbon in my filters except for when needed. In those cases I place about half the ammount of carbon in an old bag thats had the end trimmed off...it sets in the space flatter and allows the water to flow thru and around. You should also be able to purchace media bags and or make one. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] Shot rings out in the Memphis sky Free at last, they took your life They could not take your pride |

If you are needing the carbon for the above reasons, then make sure the carbon bag is thoroughly saturated with tank water or fresh dechlorinated water to rinse the fine carbon dust out of the mesh. It's usually the dust that blocks up the mesh and creates big air pockets that prevents the water from going through the bag easily. |
