i got a 110 watt "Gaurdian" submersible heater for my 20 gallon tank the other day. i followed directions and put it in the tank and let the temperature stabilize.anyways shortly after i turn it on, the "on" indicator light goes off and the water stays the same temp. now it says it shuts off when it reaches the equivalent of 185 degrees F out of water, but theres no way it could get that hot in a matter of 20 min. besides that, i have it set on low and the heater doesn't even feel hot......what am i doing wrong??

Don't ask me how it does that... I have the same heater and it rarely feels warm to the touch. However, it does seem to keep the tank at a nice steady temp, so who am I to argue?

The only way to be sure of the temp of your water is to have another thermometer in there, far away from the heater. I have my thermometer in the corner diagonally opposite to my heater.

So double-check with a different thermometer and see if you still have a problem.
