Are there any gadets out there that can control water temps? I really want cooler water but my water stays around 80 -83 degrees. My room is always hot because the heater main vent hits my room first. ANy suggestions

Chillers, but they're very expensive, as well as expensive to run. I'd look for ways of lowering the air temp, maybe turn down the heat some , close or block the vent to your room maybe, or even more the tank. Corys and danios are okay @that temp, it's better for fish to be in a consistant temp rather than one that fluctuates.

try closing the vent halfway, or like mentioned, blocking it with a shirt or something.

I wouldnt' suggest a shirt, if you do find a way to block it make sure you use something non-flamable. You'll have quite a time keeping the tank cool of a fire breaks out ....and of course I should have said it earlier, but check with your parents, or housemates, or landlord before doing anything.

the chance of that catching on fore is like 0.05%

Unless your vent is like 1' away from the furnace, and somehow flames go up through the pipes.

Still, blocking the vent doesn't sound like a smart idea IMO. Closing the vent in your room wont do any harm though, I have to close the one in my bathroom all the time so that more heat flows through the one in my bedroom.

Do you have your lights on the tank for a long period of time every day?

A chiller would work, but as mentioned, expensive. Maybe some sort of smallish computer fan type thingy could help??

Never heard of something catching on fore so I don't think you have to worry about that.

My vent thingy is broken and i live in a complex and they take a long time to fix things. I tryed putting something to stop the vent but its not working the heat seems to find its way thru. This chiller sound interesting you know where i can price on at. Im just afraid of one day the poor fish will be boil fish lol.... I mean sometime the water can reach up to 86 degrees and it stresses me out along with the fish. I keep a window cracked open but i dont want the temp to drop so much at a time. I cant turn the heat down because then my siblings who sleep on the first floor will complain because they are to cold......ugh......send me some info about this chiller thingy

The cheapest one I saw on big als was $400, and a brand I generally see people not suggest... Chillers...my understanding is that they're also not the most efficient (ie: expensive to run.

I'd suggest really just increasing surface agitation, using a fan.....I've had my tank that temp and higher over the summers, my fish didnt seem to stress...barbs, tetras and goldfish...

i have a faulty heater and so the temp is always up around 82 or 84. thats the regular temp though so the fish are used to it. i think as long as your temp doesn't fluctuate too much it shouldn't be a big deal. oh and a couple times, i've come home to find that the heat has skyrocketed up to 90+ and there were no casualties. i'm not sure about cories and danios, but they may be ok with warmer water (like the 80 - 83 you've mentioned)

If you want to spend the money on the chiller, I would first try to go out and buy a new vent cover that closes good and tight. You can find them at hardware stores like homedepot.

Just close your ac/heater vent...drop the thermastat in the house some (like babel said check with the others in the house, unless you are the adult then do with it as you want) Put a fan near the tank. Turn off the light to the tank...crack the window in your bedroom this will allow cooler air into your room that is unless you live in one of the southern states where it is still wonderfully warm weather, then I must ask why is the heater on? Best of luck, and keep cool...:%)
