Not sure why you'd need a filter for a one gallon tank... the only thing that I can think of that would be happy in a one gallon is a betta, which don't like current. And one gallons should have 100% water changes weekly, so the point of a filter is a bit beyond me.

As for the filter itself, you're discarding the entire thing every however-often... even if you COULD cycle a one gallon, that would cause it to recycle every time you discarded the filter. So... while I've never used such a filter, I can't imagine what good it would be doing you. For a one gallon tank, you'd probably better off just using a UGF if you really want a filter. *shrugs*

Buying a larger tank would give better conditions for any fish.... Health problems are very frequent when having small tanks. The larger the tank, the most stable conditions it has.

As for my experience, a 10g tank was not enough for avoiding health problems, perhaps a was a little unexperienced, but in the 55g i've got, everything has been perfect.

Go get a 10g if you plan to have a filter, but avoid Goldfish or other large growing fish in that tank.

Good luck!

they are ok.

they take up a lot of room in that small of a tank tho.
