can someone with an emperor 400 measure the width? my tank has 15.5" opening. Local store doesn't have this power filter, so i dont want to order it online just to find out it won't fit.

According to this page -- http://petsolutions.com/product.asp?pn=47464002 -- you are half an inch too short.

As DoctorJ posted, the Emperor 400 is 16", so it wouldn't fit your tank.
Have you seen the Penguin 330 Power Filter. It's a little less powerful, but it's basicly the same. And it is a great filter, IMO. Below is a link.

I once saw a web site that had measurements like this for all of the major power filters. I neglected to bookmark it. Does anyone know one?

If you give me about 4-5 hours, I'll be able to go home and measure the one on the back of my 75G.
