generally how long does a hood light, emperor filter, and powerheads last?

on my 55 high, i still have the orginal powerheads, filter, and hood lights. for over 9 years.

the only thing that scares me is the cord leading to the power head is broken. as the wireds are exposed in the motor.

also the emperor is also 9 years old, and it still works, what is the life span of these things?

also the hood, i dont really know much about it, but it works. (no idea the bulb or other info like that etc.)
all i know is that the light usually stays on maybe a max of 3 hours a day, and the bulb hasn't been changed since i bougght the tank.

the only thing that i had to replace was the sand amonia system, and the air stone.

Bulbs for plants need to be replaced every 6 months to one year if they're burnt out or not.

Filter equipment will depend on regular careful maintence.

I agree with babel. General maintenance habits, water conditions (mainly hardness), and care all affect how long your equipment will last. 9 years is a good lifespan, i have a few of the old school Whisper 5's from back in the day that still work just fine.

Where are the wires exposed in relation to the water line? Near the plug, or near the tank?

the wireds are exposed in the tank, the wireds aren't broken, but i think it would be best to replace.

on all of my tanks, i like to use hard water, and higher ph levels. if that affects anything.
