high power heater in small tank | |

Your heater may be faulty or badly calibrated. How's the water circulation in your tank? Where is your thermometer in relation to the heater? Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | Another thing to consider is how different the air temp is from the water temp. 5wpg is given as the reccomendation for heaters, but obviously if the air is much colder than the tank you're going to need a stronger heater, if there's little difference you may be able to get away with a heater that's underrated for the tank. Longer and larger tanks often need two heaters just to keep a consistant temp from one side of the tank to the next. You can try adding the spare 50w heater, however you may find that one of the heaters is trying to pull the load for both of them as was mentioned sometimes heaters arent calibrated properly. If you're considering getting a new heater go with matching 50's or 100w's depending. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] It only hurts when I breathe" |
