I don't remember the brand I got, but you have to make sure the bulb is THIN. If you get the normal sized ones, it won't fit in the plastic shield. The bulb was like nine bucks for a single bulb and it JUST fits in the shield. Works well, though. I have small crypts, anubias and java fern in there and they're all growing nicely. As I remember, the bulb I have is 15 watts and two inches wide at the ba GE BIAX (tm) Electronic 15W 120/127VAC 50/60Hz 280 mA FLE15TT3/827 That's what it says on the bulb. Incandescent bulbs give off heat and don't do jack for plants. Plus, they cost more money to run. *shrugs* By putting in a screw in fluourescent, you're saving money on the electric bill and giving live plants the light they can use. ~Meow. djtj Fish Master Posts: 1764 Kudos: 885 Votes: 49 Registered: 20-Feb-2003 | Don't they sell flourescent the same size as the incandescent? I had the same fixture and I alwasy bought flourescent. The pet store lady asked me what the tank was for, I said fish, so she said she would give me flourescent. It comes in 2 colors, blue and clear. And I know it was flourescent becasue the incandescent were like $15 and the flourescent were $3 and I always paied $3. - DJ :88) |

They're cheap (you're overpaying by about a dollar by the way) and they're smaller than the flourescents. Also, flourescents don't come in different colours, per se. Sorry dOOd |

djtj Fish Master Posts: 1764 Kudos: 885 Votes: 49 Registered: 20-Feb-2003 | wait, so the $15 ones were flourescent? I thought flourescent cost less than incandescent. Anyway, I didn't have any temperature proflems. I haven't had the tank in a while, so I can't remember the exact temperature, but it always stayed in the 75 - 80 range. But I guess plans are a different story. However, in a smaller tank, I'm not sure if you would need anything special for plants. - DJ :88) |
