See the reason I ask is I have a 10 gallon aquarium and a 55 gallon. I have incandescent lighting in my 10 gallon (my parents also have incandescent in their 29 gallon) and I have flourescent in my 55 gallon. The thing is, my water is much clearer with the incandescent lighting. My water in my 55 gallon is green (i think it's just free floating algae). And I don't have these problems in my 10 and my parents 29 gallon. I have totally redone my 55 gallon twice and it always goes back to the green water. So I figured if I switched to incandescent lighting, maybe the water wouldn't be green. Is that safe to assume? Also, If anyone else has had this problem please tell me how you got rid of it!!!! Thanks to everyone who replies!!!!!!! |

Perhaps if your tank is right under heavy direct or indirect sunlight, that's why those tanks develop their green color. If you usespecial tubes for plant growing, it might be, but i don't know cases of green algae with regular fluorescent aquarium-type lighting. |

Do you know what temperature they are (measured in Kelvins (K))? However do not switch to incadescent it's horrible, you'll wish you'd never done it. I bought a 10 gallon with incadescent lights, then I switched the incadescent bulbs for these screw in fluorescent bulbs. Never regretted it the least bit. Adding stem plants will remove the green water. |
