	protein skimmer question
haRg0wbOi Hobbyist Posts: 86 Kudos: 84 Votes: 8 Registered: 28-May-2004	I recently bought Jebo 180 Skimmer for 29-gallon tank. it has been running for almost a week now. my question is, how do you know if its working. i havent seen any foam in the collection cup. I was told that the skimmer could be used in FW tank.

You'll see it be more effective in a harder water tank, such as some types of african cichlid setup. Accumulated protiens aren't really of concern in a freshwater tank unless you feed hellacious amounts of food, and your tank would have much different and more alarming concerns over protien. Most likely it's just wasting space in your tank.

Skimmers will work a bit better when used on tanks with very hard water, but still not as efficiently as in a salty tank. And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Running a clean sponge over the surface water would probably do more. ]
