Has anybody had experience with the tanks Walmart sells? They come in the kits with a whisper filter at my Walmart. I am going to buy a new filter and flourescent bulbs, but I want to know if the tank is any good. Has anyone had any problems with them? I am going to buy the 55g kit. I have a 10g now and haven't had any problems with it so far. I don't know the brand name. The reason I'm asking is because I am more worried about it leaking and having 55 gallons of water in my bedroom floor. I am on a budget and want to the buy the cheapest one, but if that means a lower quality then I will go with an AGA tank from another store.:%)

The tank is usually fine, but the included equipment isn't of very good quality. I've gotten their 10g and 29g kits.

I've had one of their ten gallon tanks (hood, filter and heater, all new replacements) up an running for about three years --no problems what so ever with the tank.

Jeez do I have to count how many of them I've bought at this point

I have bought too many 10 gallons to count, no problems with them, except the one I bought that I found out was broke, but that was just well noone's fault really...

I've had a 29 gallon for I don't know how long:%)it was my first "big" tank and it is still running greateven after being moved 2x and both me moving it alone without help

Then I have also bought the 55 gallon, but do we really want to go into itI loved the tank, it loved me. The fish loved the tank, it loved the fish, then I came home one day to find 55 gallons of water in the floor and all my mbunas dead:#( I'm sure it was just an oops of some sort with the sealing of it. And I'm debating if it would be worth trying to find out how to contact them and see about replacement or just resealing it on my own...

Otherwise I really have enjoyed the tanks and they are a pretty good tank, and hey it comes with a hood and all...

Go for it heidi

I don't know the brand. It's probably the same since you mentioned Tetra. The filter that comes with it is tetra whisper I think. I don't know for sure. I guess I should know the brand before asking. I've looked at most of PetSmart's tanks and they are just too high for me. I don't have alot of money to spend but I have enough for the things I want. I am going to upgrade the filter because I hate the one that comes with the kits. Thanks for all the feedback..it really helped!/:'

They don't sell 55 gallon tanks at my walmart. I have never bought any from walmart besides the mini bow 5, and it works fine.

I've bought 2 of the 10 gallon set ups. The only problem I had with one of them was the fact that the filter was too tubulent and killed a couple of fish because of exhaustion (wasn't my tank but a gift to my siblings, I would've caught that fast and not let any fish die). I also bought the 29 gallon similar set up at PetSmart and like the one that I have. But make sure you leak test it (I'm sure you will anyways) because the first 29 gallon set up I had had a leak in it, and I was unfortunately a little too trusting and didn't test it before hand so I had a mess. But overall, especially since you're going to upgrade the important stuff they're a pretty good buy.

If you ever buy a big tank from walmart open the box before you leave. I got two 55g that the center brace was broken. We got tired of hauling them back. I finally went somewhere else and got one with a higher quality frame and thicker glass for the same price as the walmart kit. It's not worth it to pay for the equpiment in a walmart kit. It always breaks on me in a few months.

I have had no problem at all with any tanks from Wal-Mart.
I have had tanks from there up and running with all the parts that came with the tanks with the exception of one tank, that needed a new filter impeller, for about 4 years now.
Other then that I have never had one break at all (Knock on wood) in about 10 years of off and on buying from there.

SHAM- You are very right open the box first!!!!! I have had a bunch of un-needed trips to Wal-Mart because of it.

Around here the Petsmart prices are around the same sometimes better, so check there as well.
