Nope. They may pick at it if there are tiny beasties living in there, but they won't actually eat the plant itself.

No. As I have previously mentioned, most characins are carnivores. There are some exceptions to this, but by in large if it's called a tetra it's not going to eat plants.

I have a school of Cardinals in my Betta tank and being so close to the computer I can observe them very easily. I have never seen them even trying to eat any of the plants .

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Sorry Shinigami(I knew you had said that)...and others,
I had just read that they were partially omnivorous.

OK, thanks

I can vouch for the fact that Glowlights absolutely love algae wafers, and I also vaguely remember something about Buenos Aires Tetras having some vegetarian tendencies. Other than that, nothing.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a fish that doesn't, as most algae wafers have fish meal as their main ingredient anyway.

Heh, yes, Buenos Aires Tetras are voracious plant eaters.

I'm not sure what it is with those algae wafers, but even the completely vegetarian ones, like the cheap Wardley ones, are very attractive to most fish. There's probably something in there that stimulates their appetite.
