If all fish relied on perfect conditions to breed I think there would be far less fish kept in aquariums. In the wild it does seem they prefer certain conditions to breed, climate, water ph, and water temperatures also in some cases the moon phases. Once you have a batch of aquarium bred individuals in circulation for any species, subsequent breeding tends to become somewhat easier. There are exceptions of course - Neons and Cardinals strike me as two obvious ones - but generally, the rule is that once you have cracked the secret and persuaded a species to breed, the future generations tend to be more amenable to being persuaded to spawn or breed. |
