Come on, this poll is biased! That having been said, I prefer cardinals because they are not so common, and aren't as inbred.

Neons are far too inbred and therefore vector for too many infections and diseases because of a weakened immune system. I wouldn't ever put them in my tank again.

By the way, tryst, way to run an unbiased poll.

Well, the dodgy health factor would be one reason, but Cards also just plain look better IMO

Cardinals are KNOWN to be stronger fish than neons. Neons are KNOWN for dying. Bill Wymer (phD in marine biology) even says neons are weak fish.

Also, cardinals are more colorful. Neons are like cardinal wanna-bes

WOW! I didn't realize that neons weren't very well liked! My neons have been w/me since well January and so far (knock on wood) I've had no problems. I like my neons and wouldn't trade them for anything. They are bright, friendly and a very nice addition to my tank.

Better color. The rest is just details.

Okay, better reasons: seem to have better health, less likely to be farmed under extreme conditions (hiiiiigh heat, hormone food, etc), don't carry NTD (yet), and better color.

What a retarded biased poll.

Neons are BEGINNER fish. If you can't keep those alive, then you must be doing something wrong. They are colorful if you keep them in good quality water.

Considering prices and availability, neons are more worth it in my opinion. To the untrained eye, most people don't know the difference. I would not spend $40 more just to have a fish in which the red stripe is half an inch longer.

I hate neons. I will never buy neons again. So what do you prefer, neons or cards. . . BACK UP your answers with reasons or don't bother answering.

I have cardinals and neons, and I'd have to say the cardinals are nicer. They have much better colour, and so far none of them have died. The price is a problem though. They're about $10 each here (similar price to a female betta or small clown loach), so to get a proper school of them is rather expensive. I got mine on special

Really? At the LFS I work at they are the exact same price as neons. They are $2.99 or for six or more, $2.49. Those are the large ones... Our small ones are $0.99.

Come to think of it, most LFS's around here won't even guarantee cardinals due to their sensitive nature.

Neons and Cards are both dirt cheap here. Cards are usually cheaper than Neons here, too...

The most expensive card I've ever seen for sale 'round here was $1.49, or buy 5 and get them all for $5
