I have recently bought 5 neon tetras to add into my 10 gallon tank which has 3 long fin zebra danios. Shortly after acclimating them I had one of the neons die. Then the next morning I had 2 more dead. The ph is around 7.4 and the levels of nitrite and ammonia are 0. Any clues as to what happened?

Any visible symptoms or odd behaviour? Sometimes shock can take a few days, not all shock related deaths are instant.

Punksvspops,

How old is the tank, when did you do your last water change? The whole spiel with describing your tank and parameters as menitoned in the stickies at the top of this forum.

Any hiding places?
How did the fish look when they died?

First did you feed them within 12hrs after introducing them? This can have some bad effects on fish.

Did you slowly add you water to the water they were in (bag)?

Also did you use and meds stress coat or Melafix?

Finally go back to the LFS and see if they are having problems with that shipment.

There could of also been a virus in the stores tank or filter system. one time I brought home 5 neons for a family member and in a couple of days they died from stress. Your neons might also have a parasite between the tetras, I've seen it before and it was very sad.

Hard to say, but all fish, especially the tetras like rummys, cardinals, neons, etc. really need to be acclimated slowly over a few hours. You must slowly put some of the tank water into the bag every 10 minutes or so over the course of a few hours. Also most people probably don't test their tank water compared to the water in the bag. If these are alot different you probably need to acclimate even longer. Remember with fish, if change is slow fish can usually adjust. They can't adjust to sudden changes in ph, temp, etc.
