the directions on the medication say to dose daily for seven days, then do a 25% water change. My question is do you do water changes in between or does the the medication braekdown each day?
medication is melafix.

You do the water change after the seven days in order to keep the dose of medication up.

"The correct doseage for Melafix as a disease or wound treatment, or when adding new fish to the aquarium, or as a preventative after netting and handling fish, is 1 teaspoon for every 10 gallons. Repeat dose daily for 7 days. After 7 days, make a 25% water change. Treatment can be continued longer if necessary."

Check out this website if you need to know anything else about it:

Hope everything turns out ok!

With many meds its better to stick to the recommended course but melafix is really only tea tree oil composite, and if you have to do a water change while using it you can, and if for example you do a 30% water change, you just top the tank back up with 30% of the dose you used.

The most important thing about medications is read "all" the instructions very carefully many are used at half strength and many are not suitable for all fish. Some medications are not suitable with plants. Some medications it is better to give them a bath in a seperate container.

Read all the instructions before you buy medications, the medication might/will cure a particular fish but it could/will kill others.

When using some meds it is advisable to increase the temp, add airation, and either reduce or turn of the lighting.

The best advice I could give would be to either go to an extremly good LFS or ask here first.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info
