I think I might be slowly winning the battle of this thread http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/threads/37113.1.htm?13# only to have another issue with a newish female apisto in my discus tank. Spotted her guarding fry in her nest earlier tonight, although she seems to have moved on & given up on the guarding idea for now.

My blurry photo shows two strange lumpy growths that appeared, which I have not seen on her before. I have no idea how to treat her or what it is, so any advice on that would be appreciated, but of more pressing concern is if I should remove her. She is in the discus tank & the last thing I need is for her to bring the tank down.

Here's the photo, any opinion on if she should be removed, what the lumps are & if there is anything I can do for her would be greatly appreciated.

I do love apistos, but they seem to give me nothing but heartache

Hi Robyn,

Sorry to hear you're having 'apisto headache'.
I've had that a couple times it's never good.

The causes of lumps and bumps can vary.
I'd isolate the fish immediately from your discus
until the type of malady is confirmed.

I'm hoping this link will help you diagnose further.

Thanks for the link DaMossMan. Before I was able to get any meds, the female (& also male, who had no lumps/bumps but was lethargic) both died. I hope they haven't left any nasty surprises behind them in my precious discus tank.

Cheers

I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of your apistos

For them to be lost that fast I suspect bacterial Columnaris. It can take a very nasty form sometimes and cause fish loss in an extremely short period of time.

Apistos seem e to various bacterial infections,
I'd like to try another pair of aggies sometime if I have the room. 3 times I've lost pairs now though. It's disheartening.

I hope your discus will be ok. I'm not sure what to recommend regarding treating your tank or taking a hawks eye wait and see approach.
