On Sunday one of my bettas died (Female).:#( She had been bullied by the other female, and sunday morning I saw the bully wacking her in the head with her tail. I moved the bullied one into a different tank, but she started swimming on her side and lying there like she couldn't sink. Then a few hours later she died.

This morning (Tuesday) I wake up to find my other betta the bully with pop eye. (atleast i think it is pop eye, her eye is all swollen up.) I will try to get a picture. I have tested the water and everything is fine. Please help me, i dont know what to do with her.

Usually popeye is caused by poor water quality, so I would suspect that you would be helped by more water exchanges. Stress can probably help to bring on and compound the problem, and in this case the move to another tank likely opened your fish up to infection. All I can suggest at this point is a few extra water changes over the next couple of days.

I do want to ask: How large is the betta's tank, are there any fish in with it, and what exactly are your water parameters?

It is in a 10 gallon with about 5 platys. it hasn't moved yet. It has had a nitrate problem but i think it was caused by our water because the water has been a funny colour for the past few days, and I have just been doing lots of water changes.

The water parameters are:
Ph-7.4
gh-7
ammonia-0.0
nitrite-0.0
nitrate-7ppm
filter-Eheim Aquaball 2210 (for a 20-30 gallon tank)
water changes-30 percent weekly

I put her in my quarantine tank and treated with antibiotics my fish vet gave me.

And what did you tell me about bettas bettachris?

When you about 5 Platys what else was /is in the tank. Also how many about and what size?

I personally would not put LBs with Bettas.

Sounds like it was a water problem posibly caused by the LBs.
Do you have live plants in that tank if so how many?

Yes, it sounds like the "nitrate problem" would have been a big contributing factor here. Low water quality is usually what brings on a case of popeye, and the reversal of the poor water conditions alone is often what eliminates it.

The female bullying really started that day, it had only minorly happened once before. There is about 5-6 platys im not sure how many exact because they are babys. About 1.5cm long.

Should I put her back in the 40 Litre with another water change? I don't want other fish getting it either.

I don't believe that popeye is contagious. If more than one fish gets it, it's because the water was bad enough for multiple fish to succumb. If you're treating the fish with meds, then go for the full recommended treatment. Your vet or the medicine packaging should give you a dosage amount and duration. Otherwise, just keep doing water changes on the same tank. Moving the fish will just stress it out more and make things worse.

As SB stated Pop Eye is a water polution problem. I would remove the mollies though and do the water changes also add a little stress coat. Add the medication as recommended and it should be all OK very soon
