![]() | Can feeder blocks kill fish? |
monicalewis![]() Small Fry Posts: 7 Kudos: 6 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Sep-2004 ![]() | I put a small vacation feeder block in my 5-gal tank containing 4 healthy cherry barbs. Three days later all were dead. The filter was running. I have used this product once before with no problem. Do you think there is a connection? |

It would possibly ok in a larger tank but certainly not a small tank. The fish would have survived well with no food for a few days. Keith ![]() ![]() Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I VOTE DO YOU if not WHY NOT? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

There are lots of fish that don't like them, so many blocks remain uneaten. Once a block has been sitting in a tank for long enough, it starts to decompose. That leads to ammonia entering your water, and ammonia is not on a fish's menu. It (and/or nitrite or nitrate converted by bacteria) will build up in your water and quite possibly kill fish. To add insult to injury, these things often cloud up the tank water. Fish can easily go for a few days without eating. |

I'd say even 2 weeks. 3 days just leave as is.. Longer then a week then arrange for someone to feed your fish one small pinch a day, even give a pill container with the daily amount. If gone for 2 weeks let them go one week without and one week someone feeding. The prob with feeder blocks is it never all dissolves/gets eaten and just creates excess waste in the tank that does more harm then good. The Amazon Nut... |
