I can't be totally sure, but it looks like she might be missing a gill cover, and that it is possibly her gills sticking out? Like I said I can't be totally sure...

Do you have any pots or things in the tank where she could possibly have swam through and have gotten stuck and then had to pry her way backwards? Like I said I'm not totally sure but that is what it looks like to me...

Is she still alive? If so I'd put her in a small tank and keep an eye on her...also take out anything in the tank that may have caused this damage, I'm currently in the process of putting cabs/marbles over the holes on my terra cotta pots because I was afraid one of the silly guys or gals would get stuck...

That doesn't look to me like a gill cover that's been lost, because if it was, the pink of the gills would be plainly visible, and no pink gill rakers are visible in those shots.

That looks to me as though something has become seriously inflamed under the gill cover. Might be time to check the Cory out for gill flukes or other similar parasites. And start loading up on appropriate medications to deal with the causative organism(s).

Yes, sure looks like inflamed gills, but yet you cannot see the pink of the gills.
I would treat with a medication that treats gill flukes and other sorts of parasites ASAP.

Is it possible you could treat for a bacterial problem caused by an injury and just to be sure parasite medication.

Yeah, just keep an eye on them. An entire shoal of cories can drop off one by one from the same affliction, while the other fish in the tank are unaffected. That happened to me last year.

Sorry to hear about your cory's death, hope your other fish are doing fine.
