Yesterday i noticed one of my guppies has a silver dusting on it. They all kind have a natural silver glow to them but this one's colours have been taken over by this silverish dusting. I woke up today to find one dead, it looked extremely bloated and his fins were sticking out. Other than that he looked okay. What can this be?

Im guessing its ich or velvet but it doesnt exactly look like ich.

What are the water parameters?. The more information you give, the more answers you get.

I found 2 others dead today . Ill post water parameters as soon as I can. Im goin to do them right now. Any ideas, could it be velvet?

Caused by: dinoflagellates, which are single-celled organisms.
Saltwater: Amyloodinium


Freshwater: Oodinium

Symptoms: grayish-yellow coating on the skin and fins. Infected fish may scratch on gravel and rocks and exhibit rapid gill movements. This disease is easily confused with Ich, but in this case fish appear to be sprinkled with "gold dust" rather than white spots.

Occurrences: Parasites move from fish to fish as flagellated (tailed) spores – they can live away from the fish for as long as several days.

Treatment/Control: treat infected aquaria with General Cure.

I dont think it is velvet, maybe just stressed out fish or bad quality. Another disappeared and it is no where to be found . So I am down to one.

thats weird...could it be dropsy?

Did it look like it could be culmanaris (bad spelling)? Guppies around the LFS here seem to be notorious in contracting this disease. It kills quickly. I have found using erythromycin along with melafix works great. Let us know how it turns out, I hope your last guppy makes it.

Edit: CKK125, FYI dropsy is when the fish's body bloats up and makes the scales stick out to resemble a pinecone. HTH
