I set up a tank the other day treated the water for copper and all set the pH to 7.1 and temp 23c let the water filter through, then i went and bought 2 Angel Fish fish and they only lived twenty four hours, i have previously had a 100L tank and it thrived, could someone have an idea what might have killed them one died after about 15 hours lay at the bottom and breathed heavily, sometimes shot up then just sank again, if i helped it on it will swim for a few minutes then sink the other died through the night, the other two fish i have cannot spell or ounce their name are still alive ?????

The only thing I can ask- was the tank cycled?

The "other day" doesnt sound like the minimum 21 days it usually takes to get the water quality stable.

Aside from that - environmental stress or thermic shock ?

I see numerous potential problems. What did you treat the water with? Normally we treat for chlorine, chloramine, and heavy metals with a water conditioner not just for copper.

You said you set the ph but with what? Many products that lower the ph aren't very stable and the ph will bounce back up quite easily sending the poor fish into ph shock. In many cases it's better to leave the ph alone even if it's outside the preferred range of the fish. Most fish will adapt just fine and do much better with a slightly high ph than one you can't keep stable.

Did you spend time acclimating the fish and do you know how different the water they came from is from your own? If the water they were living in is very different from yours you might need to do extra steps to get the fish used to the water your using.

Did you cycle the tank? How long has it been setup? I don't think angels by themselves would pollute an uncycled tank enough to die in 24hours but you mentioned there were other fish. Whenever you post about a fish death it's very useful to include full water tests particularly ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.

Finally you could have just bought sick angels and even if you'd done everything right they still would have died.

I think you can put that down to experience as stated previously there were possibly too many thing that did or could go wrong. I suggest you do some good reading/research before you add any more fish to any tanks.

Did you do a full water test before the introduction of the fish and was it introduced correctly?
