caddica![]() Small Fry Posts: 3 Kudos: 2 Votes: 0 Registered: 10-Mar-2006 ![]() ![]() | Hi I have a tropiquarium68(67.5cm long,31.75cm wide, 61cm high, 29UK gallons) tonights test results No2 = 0.1, No3 = 10, Ammonia = 0 and PH 8? temp 28c The Molly has been in the tank 4 weeks today. My Black Molly has been hanging around on the bottom of the tank hardly moving unless startled then just lays still again, she had a clouded eye the other week and this seems to have cleared up fine but now she looks like she's dying. I'm not sure I can see anything wrong with her though. I've read through the disease section and can't find anything like it, when looking closely it looks like the odd scale her and there is peeling off like dead skin, it also looked like she had a crack continuing from her gill to the top of her head but I'm not sure if that's normal. She seems to be labouring with her breathing other than that she just seems lethargic and sad. I have taken her out of the tank for now as wasn't sure what to do? The tank has been set up for 5 weeks now, the No2/No3 dropped last week so she has been in there 3wks with high No2/No3 levels, she was one of the 1st fish to go in the tank, 3 mollies and 3 platy the rest of them seem fine. She was pregnant when we got here but gave us 30+ babies and untill tonight appeared fine. I added 5 guppies and a siamese fighting fish to the tank Tuesday, also started using PH down on Tuesday as was advised Ph8 was too high, I have been putting 30 drops in as per instructions (30drops per 100L) i think my tank converts to 131L? PH is still 8 have been testing daily and adding daily due to there being no change. Could this be the cause of the Black Mollies pains???? If so why do the others appear ok? __________________ |

Has any other fish been in that tank during that time? Did you add a "Cycle" Product as soon as you set the tank up? How many water changes have you done and what percentage? It sounds like you did not let the tank "Cycle" before you added the Molly/others, and this is very possibly what is effecting the molly. You could try doing severl 50% water changes 3 days appart also add some stress coat. This is only a suggestion it might save your fish yet again it could be too late. After another week I went to a different LFS as the shop that sold me the initial fish wouldn't have the Platy back despite them having sold me 2 male and a female in error so I decided to go elsewhere. The LFS I use now have been fantastic they told me about getting a test kit so I could test my own water and advised me how to sort it out as the No3 and No2 were off the scale. The tank now seems fine except for this poor Molly who has passed away, the rest look great swimming about and feeding. I had a real good look at the Molly when she had died can't see any external problems so guessing maybe it was poor management on my behalf? Anyway it's all about learning and I always learn from my mistakes, I will tell my LFS about the Molly dying next time I go. ![]() |

At least you are here and have learnt a very valuable lesson about some LFS. Now you have located a good one stick to it. Also if you are not sure ask and keep asking until you get an answer. Finally keep in touch.
