Patchy![]() Enthusiast Posts: 224 Kudos: 195 Votes: 0 Registered: 25-Sep-2005 | Hi everyone when i was floating the bag of neons i just bought i relised one has no eyes, at first i was gunna put him down. but thought i should ask weather this is wrong or not? will he be able to find food? seems to find thee school of neons ok. im unsure wheather he lost his eyes in their tank or while acclimtising ![]() |

There are at least one or two of them in just about every shop (besides the fish that are meant to not have eyes), and they for the most part are perfectly healthy. Yours probably lost its eye while in the shop; predators and aggressive fish sometimes take out an eye from their targets without otherwise harming the fish. The affected fish will be able to live a normal life. |

The fish will adapt to not being able to see eventually. I worked with an oscar that had no eyes that lived fine. However, it couldn't distinguish my hand from a feeder fish when I worked in the tank. |

I might be tempted to check into whether a bacteria or parasite caused it , but aside from that, theres no reason to bump him off just yet.
