Hello,
My male dwarf Gourami is missing. I have moved stuff around my tank but I can NOT find him. I did a brief search around my tank and no luck finding him. Anyone have any ideas or any knowledge on how far they can "jump" when out of water? Thanks.

Chris

That so sad.. sorry to hear about that .. are you sure youve turned your tank completely upside down before assuming the worst ?

Fish can travel a bit of distance while flopping around . and they shrivel when out of the water so they look odd and could be covered in dust .. look behind cabinets, shelfs, anywhere in the room it could have gotten stuck behind...

also do you have a cat or a dog, because they can goble up your fish if it did jump out.then i would be doing some testing,to find out why your fish decided to depart.

If he died in the tank and got eaten, you will find his skull I would say.

Do you have any hollow ornaments or anything with tight fitting spaces he could have retreated to? I lost a danio once and searched and searched my tank and around it thinking it jumped out. I found it after I did a water change. I was adding a bucket of water. The current adding the water was creating must have dislodged him from wherever he was stuck because he came floating to the top. It was strange because I thought for a fact I searched every inch of that tank, but there he was. Hope my little story helps.

Today I will change the water and try to find him. I looked all around my room. Under my bed, desk, dresser, and even the heater event. I really hope this water change will help. I'll update you guys later today.

UPDATE: I found the fish, dead, stuck in the crevices in the DW. Oh Well, Thanks for the effort Everyone!

Sorry about your guorami. It does make me think though about how many fish I have heard of finding a small space to fit themselves into. I wonder if they go somewhere like a crack in driftwood on purpose knowing they are going to die or if they accidentaly get themselves stuck. You know like cats. They will often find small spaces to go and die in. Well, anyways I am glad you at least know what happened instead of wondering. Closure is needed even in a fish death.

Just in case this would happen to occur again, if you find the fish fairly soon after they jump it is possible to revive them. Gently grab the fish and run it backwards through the water to get the water running through its gills. I've seen this technique revive many fish. Its almost like aquatic cpr

mmmmm, run some tests on your water,i would be trying to find out why your fish are bailing out before, the next fella decides it time to departor if your water parameters are fine, have a look and see if theres any aggression between some of your fish,if its gets bad enuff, this can cause fish to jumpout, and also find out where they are getting out, check the back corners where your cords are,and make sure that all the gaps are closed up tight, then you should be fine

Just a thought, but precisely what is the complete stocking list in that tank, inclusive of fish, shrimps and everything?
