In my community tank one of my female bettas seems to have developed a tumor. I am not sure what it is because I have never seen this in any of my tanks, and yes I am new to bettas but not to fish in general and have had variations of barbs for many years- But from my researching, I believe it's cotton wool (which said the fish in question could die within 24 hours! ). The tumor itself is not obscenely large but to the point where scales are stretched, there are no lesions and the fish has be isolated. Can anybody tell me what she may have? How can it be treated? Also, how bad do I have to worry about the rest of the fish in the community tank (since their are no lesions yet) ?

Edit; The fish has been isolated and examined under a magnify glass for lesions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it is Cotton Wool Disease, then follow the disease profile on this site and treat it with Furanace, sold as FURAN brand medications(Credit to Longhairedgit).

Thats about all i can add, except maybe the addition of melafix to the tank and QT tank. Also pimafix, if you are sure it is cotton wool.

Wont be cotton wool disease if its a lump, it will either be a cystic growth, a tumour, a piece of everted tissue from bacterial activity or an injury, a blister from thermal burns,or cauliflower disease.

Can you post a picture of the afflicted fish? Im pretty good on identifying lumps, as long as I can see them.

Sorry to say- no, I don't have a camera seeing as I only own disposables and I doubt I could capture the fish well enough and I am also lacking a scanner. But it does seem tumor-like and some websites and books have related small tumor-like growths to cotton wool. But I guess not. The fish mentioned was isolated although a bit too late considering I woke this morning to find her and all her tank mates but ONE dead. All in a sort of angled position with the tumor weighing their body down to the bottom and their tail floating up. Kind of like this / . I've had these fish for two years and I am going to do everything I can to keep the last alive so anyone who can help please do.
