try to feed it a boiled shelled pea...

if he wont eat it soak it with some blood worms... is he acting funny? because my fish get this from time to time just from over indulging...

Could be anything from internal parasites and bacteria to constipation, try the blanched mashed and shelled pea trick, its really just for fibre, and if you think its serious beyong that try the jungle labs antiparasite formula. If he genuinely wont eat you can try a little epsom salts in the water, it might cause a purge.

Water readings might be helpful, maldigestion and constipation can often be aggravated by water quality issues. A fish with a reduced level of breathing and difficulty in passing renal wastes can suffer from all sorts of kidney and liver issues and its also worth considering that as a cause of osmotic failure, and all the symptoms associated with dropsy.

Can you be more specific about precisely where hes bloated?

Hi,
I'm not sure what else you want. You gave us sketchy
information, and several suggestions were offered.
Now, rather than just asking "anything new" you might
offer responses to the questions, and perhaps appropriate
comments such as "I tried the crushed peas" or I did...
(Such and such) and nothing has changed, or the swelling
(bloating) is going down, etc.

If you are feeding them freeze dried foods without first
soaking them, that could be THE problem as well.

The "cure" is not going to happen overnight. All of
these posts are dated 01 Feb. Take action with the
suggestions and keep the guys who responded to you posted
as things change.

Frank

well, looking at he pics you have, that Trichogaster sure does look to be a female.(and a very nice specimen at that)
In no way am I an expert nor is it my intent to contradict any of the previous replies, just a thought and going out on a limb here, I wonder if she could be "egg-bound". It is uncommon for fish to get in this condition but it still happens. If this be the case, the long opaque "poo string" may be the result of the fish reabsorbing the eggs within the abdomen, nearly pure protein, which might explain the refusal to eat. Like Longhairedgit suggested, keep up with the mashed shelled peas to get in some vegetable matter and fiber.

Best of luck and hang in there

J.
